John Wayne Airport - Orange County
The John Wayne Airport - Orange County is located south of Santa Ana and north of Costa Mesa, in Orange County. Encompassing 500 acres, the airport is Orange County's only commercial airport. The airport was established in 1923 by Eddie Martin, and operated as a general aviation airfield until 1939. The majority of airport traffic is produced by general aviation aircraft. The fixed base operators provide flight training, aircraft maintenance, fuel and hangars.
The airport houses about 600 general aviation aircraft, including corporate jets, vintage biplanes and helicopters. On average, the two all-cargo airlines transport over 15,000 tons of cargo each year. The airport's main runway services the ten commercial airlines, while the adjacent runway services the airport's general aviation needs. Several non-stop flights are available to many major U.S. cities and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. While in the Santa Ana area, stay close to the airport in a comfortable Best Western guest room.
