Mount Wilson Observatory
The Mount Wilson Observatory is home to the historic 60-inch telescope, the world's largest telescope available for public. The observatory is located on the top of Mount Wilson, near Pasadena. George Hale founded the observatory in 1904 and built the 60-inch telescope in 1908.
The observatory is also home to the historic 100-inch Hooker telescope, the world's largest until 1947. The observatory was first funded by the Carnegie Institute of Washington.
