Muir Woods National Monument

Muir Woods National Monument is located near Corte Madera in the Marin County. The monument encompasses 559 acres of land, including 240 acres of old-growth Coast Redwood forests. The land was declared a National Monument by President Roosevelt in 1908 and is named after John Muir, a naturalist who was instrumental in establishing the National Park System.

The Coast Redwood average between 500 to 800 years old, with the tallest tree in the Monument measuring at 258 feet. Stop by the visitor center to find information on the 6 miles of hiking trails.
