Muir Woods was declared a National Monument by President Roosevelt in 1908 and is named after John Muir, a naturalist who was instrumental in establishing the National Park System.
The Coast Redwood average between 500 to 800 years old, with the tallest tree in the Monument measuring at 258 feet. Stop by the visitor center to find information on the 6 miles of hiking trails. Enjoy strolling along the paved trails and bring your camera to capture shots of these magnificent, giant trees.
