As the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders wrap up their 2012 seasons, Bay area attention moves to Oakland’s Oracle Arena and action from the NBA Golden State Warriors as well as popular University athletic teams, including the Stanford Cardinals. Located east of Sunnyvale, Santa Clara Stadium is anticipated to be complete for the 2014 season.
Catch a ride on the Caltrain Holiday Train for a festive 2012 holiday experience. The Silicon Valley Community Foundation presents the Holiday Train dressed for the season with lights and decorations. Board Caltrain with family and friends December 1st and 2nd for various South Bay Area destinations. Saturday’s schedule includes departures from San Francisco, Redwood City and Santa Clara. On Sunday, cities include Millbrae, San Mateo and Sunnyvale. Make the Caltrain Holiday Train your holiday tradition.
Redwood City’s historic Fox Theatre hosts two performances of The Nutcracker, during December 2012. See Ballet America performing the holiday favorite December 7th. Ballet America is based in Redwood City. From December 15th through the 23rd, the Peninsula Ballet Theatre performs Bruce Steivel’s, The Nutcracker. Make Redwood City part of your holiday fun.
Get ready for the 2013 New Year with a 10K run along the San Francisco South Bay. The Golden Gate Bridge Vista 10K is December 20th, featuring a spectacular out and back course from Lincoln Park to the Presidio. End the year in cool Bay weather with unbridled views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Pacifica, on the coast south of San Francisco, challenges athletes with the 2013 Pacifica Foothills Trail Run on January 19th. Kick off the New Year with a challenge. Choose a 10K, half or full marathon, 30K or 50K course through San Pedro Valley Park. The course features a climb up North Peak on the Montara Mountain Trail, past Brook Falls. Enjoy scenic Pacific Ocean views, the sounds of Brook Creek and the peace of San Pedro Valley Park – a great start to your New Year.
