Visiting the San Francisco Bay Area
Spring and summer see the City by the Bay shake with activity. The breezy weather is tempered by warm sunshine, sending the people of communities from San Francisco and Oakland to Santa Clara and San Jose to the outdoors to be a part of more special events, annual festivals, sports, and kid-friendly fun than ever.
Bay Area baseball fans have an exciting summer ahead of them. Perennial championship contenders, the San Francisco Giants, are back in action at AT&T Park, and across the bay, the Oakland A's 2016 season is in full swing as well. Check the schedule during your stay to catch a home game, or be there for the four-game "Battle of the Bay" when the two teams play each other – twice at AT&T Park on June 27th and 28th, and twice at O.co Coliseum on June 29th and 30th.
San Francisco has long been known as a haven for cultural diversity and equality, and the 2016 San Francisco Pride events celebrate just that on June 25th and 26th. The fun centers on the San Francisco Civic Center Plaza, where music, dancing, parades, and more are set to take place.
The City's comfortable spring and summer weather serves as an invitation to get out and get active, and visitors won't be short on opportunities to do so this year. The 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is June 12th, challenging athletes with a 1.5-mile swim, followed by an 18-mile bike ride, and culminating in an 8-mile run. The race starts at Fisherman's Wharf at 7:30 Saturday morning, but the surrounding festivities start Friday night and go all weekend.
Oakland keeps the fun going with a variety of recurring events this season. Every Friday night, the Oakland Museum of California hosts local food trucks, regional craft beer tastings, live music, and other special weekly events. Friday Nights @ OMCA events start at 5 p.m. every week.
On the first Friday of every month, Oakland's KONO District is transformed into a true cultural hub, as streets fill with vendors and performers, and area galleries and venues fill with art and live music. The fun usually goes from around 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The 2016 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival promises to be the biggest one yet – and it's big every year. From August 5th through 7th, the event fills Golden Gate Park with all sorts of activities and interactive art exhibits, not to mention performances by the likes of Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Lionel Richie, and Lana Del Ray.
