College Sports in California

Visit the University of San Francisco

 

Established in 1855, the University of San Francisco is one of the oldest schools in California. Dubbed “The Hilltop,” USF offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees. And with a variety of things to do in San Francisco, some visitors forget the USF Dons are playing sports nearly year-round.

Visitors from nearby cities like Millbrae, Pacifica, and Oakland enjoy the winter and early spring in San Francisco area, as the USF Dons basketball team slams and jams their way through the tough West Coast Conference. Head to War Memorial Gymnasium and watch as the Dons take on teams like Gonzaga and BYU.

Baseball fans in the San Francisco bay area make their way to Dante Benedetti Diamond at Max Ulrich Field during the spring for the all the high-heat action of SFU Dons baseball. The Dons have seen moderate success over the years, winning conferences titles in 2006 and 2011, but never winning a national championship. The season begins in February and runs through May, barring any postseason appearances.

For those visitors who may not be so enamored with basketball or baseball, check out the SFU Volleyball team. The Dons volleyball spring season kicks off in April – visit the War Memorial Gym for all the spikes, aces, bumps, and cut shots.
