USC Has a Rich History in Sports
The University of Southern California, with its 3.5 billion dollar endowment in 2011, is one of the largest private universities in California. Situated in the Los Angeles metro area, USC was established in 1880, and is a four-year university, offering a wide range of degrees in undergraduate and graduate studies.
USC has a rich sports history, having won national championships in sports like football, men’s and women’s tennis, track and field, and even baseball. Many visitors to LA and surrounding cities like Long Beach, Wilmington, and Monterey Park find various sporting events to attend throughout the year – one of the biggest draws being USC football.
USC Trojans football is arguably one of the biggest shows in the Southern California area. LA football fans, not having a professional team to root for, gravitate towards the Trojans, and even the UCLA Bruins football team, a bitter rival of the Trojans. Having seen much success in the 2000s with two national championships, multiple conference titles, and 3 different Heisman trophy winners, USC football has been the envy of many in the world of college football.
During the fall, head to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and check out the hard-hitting, high-octane football action, as the Trojans battle the rest of the Pac-12. During the winter months, basketball fans plan visits to the Galen Center, home to USC Trojans basketball, men’s and women’s. The Galen Center plays host to both men’s and women’s volleyball.
USC baseball has seen its share of success – 12 national championships and a slew of players on Major League Baseball rosters. Check out a game during the spring at Dedeaux Field.
