UCLA Keeps Pace in CA Sports
One of the most famous and recognizable schools in the Los Angeles metro area, the University of California, Los Angeles, more commonly known as UCLA, was established in 1919 to be the southern branch of the University of California. It’s since grown into one of the top research universities in the nation, boasting a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and a stellar athletics department.
Surrounded by cities like Burbank, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Torrance, the exciting action of UCLA sports is never far for locals and visitors alike. UCLA athletics have a history steeped in tradition and excellence. The UCLA basketball program is famous for its domination of the 60s and 70 behind the coaching of the legendary John Wooden.
During the winter months, college basketball fans from cities like Pasadena, Marina Del Ray, and Oxnard make their way to the Pauley Pavilion for all the slams and jams UCLA basketball offers. Pauley Pavilion is home to the UCLA women’s and men's basketball teams.
College football is huge in the southern California area, with rival school USC only 20 minutes east of UCLA. Fans of both programs gear up for the annual showdown between UCLA and USC, as they both compete in the Pac-12 Conference. All UCLA home football games are played at the Rose Bowl.
Baseball fans visiting from nearby cities like Redondo Beach, Norwalk, and Rowland Heights routinely make plans to visit Jackie Robinson Stadium during the spring. Be sure to catch all the home runs, strikeouts, and double plays during the UCLA baseball season. The UCLA softball team plays all of it’s home games at Easton Stadium.
