The Galaxy Reign Supreme in CA's MLS Scene
After the 2010 World Cup, soccer’s popularity in the United States undoubtedly grew. Major League Soccer, founded in 1993, has since seen a bump in popularity. California features three of the 19 teams scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada. Los Angeles has the Galaxy, San Jose has the Earthquakes, and Carson features the Chivas USA.
When visiting the LA metro area, don’t miss out on the non-stop action of LA Galaxy soccer. Visit the Home Depot Center during the fall and watch all the free-kicks, through passes, volleys, and diving saves as the Galaxy battle for another championship.
Chivas USA, set in Carson, is another of the MLS clubs based out of California. Associated with Mexican club CD Guadalajara, Chivas USA, like the Galaxy, play all home games at the Home Depot Center. Fans from nearby cities like Long Beach, and Wilmington rarely miss all the penalty kicks, flicks, and lobbed crosses that Chivas USA soccer yields.
Make your way north into the San Jose area and visit Buck Shaw Stadium, home of the San Jose Earthquakes. Founded in 1995, the Earthquakes are based out of Santa Clara, and is one of the original 10 charter members of the MLS. Winners of two MLS Cup championships, the Earthquakes have a strong following as the only club in the northern regions of California – fans stretch from Gilroy to Watsonville to Salinas.
