Visiting California's Central Valley
South of San Francisco and north of SoCal you’ll find Central California. Looking for a cultured visit, stop by the newly opened Gallo Center for the Arts in downtown Modesto or the Bakersfield Museum of Art. If you’re more of a speed freak then the Bakersfield Speedway or the Modesto Racetrack will surely delight you. Take a ride with the family on the Sacramento River Train where brunch, lunch and dinner are served. While you roll along, enjoy the combination of scenery, food and entertainment. If you love gardens and nature, then a stop to the Japanese Gardens or the Chaeffe Zoological Gardens in Fresno feature exciting exhibits from around the world.
Best Western offers over 40 hotels in the Central Valley. Book your stay today and let your summer fun begin.
Visit Graffiti Summer and relive the years when America was growing up. From June through August, the city of Modesto celebrates all things made famous in native George Lucas’ film “American Graffiti”. If you remember the days when the ‘fabulous fifties’ were turning into the ‘turbulent sixties’, then you’ll love all the citywide events. From classic car shows, summer concerts and dance parties, to blues festivals and a tribute to “Happy Days” - Modesto’s Graffiti Summers are an annual highlight.
Time is running out for visiting the Fresno Art Museum’s summer exhibition. Now through August 5th, you can art hop and catch the work of some of Fresno’s most talented artists on display. See exhibits of French prints, architecture, and scripts and scrolls. You can also keep your children inspired while on summer break. The Fresno Art Museum has several kid-friendly exhibits from day camps - “Camp Play”, and “Art Academy” to theater classes like “LA Improv No. 7” at the Reedley Opera House.
Ferris wheels, stick horse races, and bumper cars - the Merced County Fair is here. Eat junk food, play games and run amuck from June 15th thru 19th at the Merced County Fairgrounds. Live performances by Morris Day and The Time, goat and sheep exhibits, and the crowning of the Rodeo Queen are what you have in store. “Saddle up for fun” is the theme this year, which means you’re definitely in for a treat of a good time.
