Visiting the California Desert Region
Springtime visitors to California's desert are greeted by some of the most beautiful weather the region sees all year. Outdoor adventures await in state and national parks like Joshua Tree National Park, and communities from Blythe to Indio to Barstow are as welcoming as ever. Special events, music festivals, family-friendly fun, and more – now's the time to get lost in the California desert.
Blythe celebrates “country roots and cowboy boots” with the 2016 Colorado River Fair. Join residents for a weekend of all things western at the I-10 Speedway, March 17th through 20th.
Indio visitors won't want to miss the 2016 Rhythm, Wine & Brews Festival on March 5th. Held on the fields of the Empire Polo Club, the event features lots of live entertainment alongside tons of locally produced wines and craft brews. California's own reggae-rock legends 311 are also scheduled to perform.
The Empire Polo Club sees even bigger crowds the weekend of April 15th through 17th, and again for a second weekend, April 22nd through 24th, when the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival returns, bringing with it more than 100 musical acts, dozens of visual artists, food trucks, and many more activities. This year's headliners include LCD Soundsystem, Guns N' Roses, and Ice Cube. Skip expensive camping and parking passes by sleeping off-site in Indio, or in the nearby communities of Indio, Palm Desert, or Palm Springs.
The 2nd Annual Relay for Life Dance is a chance for Brawley visitors to shake what their mamas gave them for a good cause on April 1st – no foolin'. The party rages from 8 p.m. to midnight at Hidalgo Hall.
The 2016 El Paseo Cruise Night is May 6th. Owners of rare and classic rides show off their sleds at Gardens on El Paseo at 3:15 before cruising through Palm Desert at 4:30. Car guys and gals won't want to miss this – it's the last cruise of the season.
