Visiting Desert Region
Before the heat really jumps up, be sure to explore the desert region of California. Cities like Brawley and El Centro make for intriguing destinations this spring. Just along the CA/AZ border, you’ll find Blythe, a charming and quaint city home to the Palo Verde Historical Museum. Head west along I-10 and you’ll find Indio – the perfect destination when looking to do a bit outdoor exploring in Joshua Tree National Park. Whether you’re passing through on your way to San Diego, or looking for an authentic southern California vacation, head to the desert region.
You’ll find a variety of adventures when exploring Indio. February is a fine time to visit Indio – check out The Johnny Cash Story: The man, the music, the memory, performed live at the Indio Performing Arts Center. The Johnny Cash story in Indio runs from February 8th through the 10th – a wonderful weekend activity.
Later in February, don’t miss the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival, from the 15th through 24th. All the fun of the Riverside County Fair takes place at the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival Fairgrounds.
If you visit in April, you’re in luck, as one of the major music and arts festivals is underway. You’ll love the diverse crowds and music at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, April 12th – 14th, and then 26th – 28. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival attracts visitors from across the globe and from as close by as Palm Desert, and Palm Springs.
One of the northern-most cities in the desert region of California is Barstow. Home to the Route 66 Museum, and the Mojave National Preserve, Barstow is a choice destination on your visit. Visit the Calico Ghost Town for a wealth of entertainment. The Calico Ghost Town hosts a Civil War Re-Enactment, February 18th through the 20th. Treat mom to a pleasant day out with the family when you check out the Calico Spring Festival, Mother’s Day Weekend.
Further south, near the Mexico border, you’ll discover Calexico. Explore the area when you’re looking for a fun, outdoor adventure. With close proximity to the Salton Sea Beach Marina, and the Heber Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, you’ll have options this spring – an aquatic adventure, or a sandy, dune-riding excursion.
Beat the heat and enjoy your time exploring these pleasant cities in the desert region of California – there’s no better time than spring.
