Visiting California's High Sierras
California features one of the most wide-ranging and diverse travel landscapes found across the U.S. In the High Sierras of CA, the mountainous region stretching from Sequoia National Forest to Yosemite National Park and beyond, you’ll find a stunning range of open pastures, densely wooded forests, and a unique mix of pleasant cities and must-visit attractions. This summer, make your travel plans for California’s High Sierras.
Mammoth Lakes, easily accessed from Highway 395, is a premier town in the High Sierras, and certainly a worthy destination this summer. Be sure to check out the always-thrilling Mammoth Festival of Beers & Bluesapalooza, one of the most popular yearly events in the area. From August 4th through 7th, head for Sam’s Wood Site where you’ll see top blues bands and sample an array of craft beer. The drive in from nearby Bishop is scenic and quick.
Over the Labor Day Weekend in Mammoth Lakes, be sure to experience the Labor Day Festival of the Arts. Held at the same Sam’s Wood Site as the Bluesapalooza, this arts & crafts fair starts on September 2nd and finishes up on September 5th. More than 110 exhibiting artists will be on hand, along with food vendors, live music, and craft workshops for the kids.
Further north within the High Sierras, head for Truckee, the charming city near Lake Tahoe. From August 16th through 21st, the Lake Tahoe Music Festival will be the top draw in the area. There will be several different performance venues across Truckee and the South Lake Tahoe area, but on August 19th, head for the Salty Gebhart Amphitheatre to see soloist like Nathan Hughes of the New York Metropolitan Opera.
Make plans to explore Dinuba, a city just outside of Fresno, and enjoy one of their premier events. From September 21st to 25th, experience the Dinuba Rock & Roll Harvest Festival 2016, which celebrates the area’s first raisin harvest. Make the short drive in from nearby Exeter or Porterville this summer and enjoy Dinuba’s small town charms.
