Originally known as Daugherty Field, Long Beach Airport, located in the center of Long Beach, was established in 1923. Hangars, runways and a control tower were built during the late 1920's and mid 1930s. In 1928, the United States Navy established the Naval Reserve Air Base at the airport. It's a hub of travel in the Orange County area.
Throughout the years, the airport has become one of the world's busiest general aviation airports, with flight schools, charter flights and private aviation activity. Encompassing more than 1,100 acres, the airport's five runways service the four commercial airlines to several major U.S. cities. Terminal amenities include restaurants, wine bars, shopping, free Wi-Fi internet access, rental car agencies and convenient parking.
Learn about the rich history and traditions of the Orange County area with a visit to Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch. Found on five acres of beautiful gardens in Long Beach. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes an early 19th century adobe ranch house and gardens.
The historic ranch house and grounds are now a museum containing a collection of artifacts from the rancho era and the Los Angeles region. Long Beach, is considered the "Aquatic Capital of the Nation," home to second busiest container ports in the country, the Port of Long Beach. Enjoy a free boat tour of the port.
The Queen Mary
As one of the most iconic landmarks in California, the Queen Mary remains a popular tourist attraction, located in Long Beach. Built in 1930, The Queen Mary began as "the grandest ship ever built," and later carried troops at the beginning of World War II.
Step aboard The Queen Mary, for one of a variety of tours including a First Class Passage, Haunted Encounters Passport and General Admissions Passport.
Tours are also available for the Russian Foxtrot Submarine, a Russian Cold-War era submarine.
