California features a long list of airports. The Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport was first established in 1945 with a runway, hangar and office building. In 1949, after years of development, the San Jose Municipal Airport was open for commercial flights.

Located northwest of San Jose, this 1,050-acre airport continued to expand throughout the years. It was one of the first American airports involved in the noise regulation program in the early 1980s.
