Santa Maria Public Airport, located south of Santa Maria, was built by the United States Army during World War II, as a training base. B-25 pilots were trained at the Santa Maria Army Base from 1929 until 1943. The airport was renamed Santa Maria Public Airport in 1964. The airport encompasses more than 2,000 acres along the Central California Coast.
Commercial flights are available through Allegiant Air to Las Vegas and to Los Angeles through United Express. The airport has added on a 4,000 sq ft baggage claim area, a passenger terminal and restaurant. Central Coast Jet Center, the fixed base operator, provides services for the 200 general aviation aircraft, based at the airport. After arriving in Santa Maria, consider checking into a comfortable Best Western guest room for a wonderful night's rest.
