Meadows Field

Meadows Field, located north of Bakersfield, encompasses 1,357 acres in Kern County. The airport was built in 1926 and named Kern County Airport No. 1. By 1946, the airport was used as an Army Air Forces Night Fighter School, by the United States Army Air Forces. This training airfield was also used by the 427th Night Fighter Squadron in 1944. After the conclusion of the war, the airport was renovated with a new terminal and commercial flights commenced.
