Cesar E. Chavez National Monument

Located at the site known as Nuestra Senora Reine de la Paz, the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument is only minutes southeast of Bakersfield in the California's Central Valley. It preserves the site where Cesar E. Chavez is buried. Opened in 2012, the Cesar Chavez Monument is spread across 116 acres. 

Visitors are also welcomed to the site with a visitors' center equipped with multimedia presentations, a memorial garden of Chavez's burial place, and numerous interpretive and educational programs in the park. The Cesar Chavez Monument site is also the formers headquarters of the United Farm Workers. 

Meadows Field

Spread across 1,357 acres in Kern County, Meadows Field is an airport just north of Bakersfield. The airport was used as an Army Air Forces Night Fighter School by the United States Army Air Forces. This training airfield was also used by the 427th Night Fighter Squadron in 1944.

After the conclusion of the war, the airport was renovated with a new terminal and commercial flights commenced.

The William M. Thomas terminal boasts of shopping, dining, rental car agencies, and a scaled model of Spaceship One. Passengers choose either United Continental or US Airways for commercial flights to Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Phoenix. It's a major hub of air travel in the Central Valley.
