Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary

Near downtown Arcata, the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary is ideal for an easy outdoor getaway. Part of Humbolt County's innovative waste water management program the wetlands are a wildlife refuge and are on the Pacific Flyway bird migration route.

With nearly five miles of trails, the Arcata Marsh is a popular destination for hiking, biking, jogging and bird watching. Saturday morning tours are staffed by the Redwood Region Audubon Society. Arcata/Eureka Airport

The Arcata/Eureka Airport is located in the North Coast Redwoods area of northern California, just north of Arcata and Eureka. The 745-acre airport was built as a site to test aircraft defogging systems, for the United States Navy, during World War II. The airport supported the Naval Air Station Alameda and was the 12th Naval District's headquarters. In 1947, a DC-3 for Southwest Airlines used the Ground-Controlling Approach radar and Instrument Landing System, for the first time in the world, to land the aircraft.

As the largest airport between Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, it services general aviation, commercial flights and cargo shipments. The commercial airline offers service to Sacramento, Crescent City and San Francisco. Patrick's Point State Park

Redwood National Park
