It's always a great time to visit our fabulous Martinez hotel in sunny California, where fine dining, shopping, the Amtrak Station, and downtown are right down the street.

Hotels in Martinez strive to reach the bar set by our accommodations. Named after John Muir, the first naturalist who started Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks, we're all about embracing nature. Hiking and biking trails abound near this Martinez hotel. However, we're also close to the marina for great fishing.

John Muir Martinez led this area when it came to celebrating natural beauty, but we don't skimp on pampering. Martinis on the Plaza is an annual event. This favorite cocktail drink was invented here. The annual King of the Country BBQ and Music Festival is a classic. Bass fishing tournaments are fierce in this neck of the woods.

If you're in the mood for some cultural treats, check out the national historical site that features the John Muir Association, his home and park. The friendly staff of this Martinez hotel are happy to help guests plan the ideal getaway. No other hotel in the Concord area boasts this kind of attention to detail.

This Martinez hotel hosts numerous business travelers who are looking to add a dash of adventure to their trip. Employees of Contra Costa County, Shell Oil Company, Kaiser Permanente and the Veterans Health Administration call us home while they're on (and off) the clock. For a special treat, there is a manager's reception Monday-Thursday from 5:30-7:30, where complimentary mixed drinks, pizza, chili, soups, sandwiches, pasta salad and bread are served with a menu based off the current weather.

Complimentary full breakfast is served daily. There's no better start to your day.

Book your next trip at BEST WESTERN PLUS John Muir Inn and enjoy a vacation that blends nature with nurture!

See the Black Diamond Mines

Sprawled across more than 5,000 acres, the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve is a top attraction in the San Francisco Bay area, southeast of Martinez. The land in the preserve produced almost four million tons of coal during the late 1860s, into the early 1900s.

There were twelve mines located in the area's five mining towns that became the largest coal-producing mines in the state.

While in this historical area, be sure to visit the Rose Hill Cemetery, where more than 200 people are buried from the area. Visit the preserve for a guided underground tour of the Hazel-Atlas Mine to learn more about mine operations. Go above ground for a wonderful afternoon of hiking on the preserve's sixty miles of trails.

John Muir National Historic Park

Spread across 325 acres, the John Muir National Historic Park is found near Martinez in the San Francisco Bay area. The park was established in 1964 and preserves the Muir Mansion, built in 1883. John Muir, well-known naturalist and conservationist, lived in the house from 1890, until his death in 1914. Be sure to browse the Museum Collections Exhibit to view the photographs and Muir's personal belongings.

Visit the park today to enjoy a 30-minute, guided or self-guided tour of the first floor of the mansion. Stop by the visitor center to view the biographical film about Muir and to learn more about his life. Schedule your visit for the summer or fall and enjoy a piece of fruit grown in the orchards
