Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport
The Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport was first established in 1945 with a runway, hangar and office building, for general aviation. In 1949, after years of development, the San Jose Municipal Airport was open for commercial flights. Located northwest of San Jose, this 1,050-acre airport continued to expand throughout the years. It was one of the first American airports involved in the noise regulation program in the early 1980s. The airport was named for native resident Norman Yoshio Mineta, the former Transportation Secretary and former Commerce Secretary under the George Bush and Bill Clinton administrations.
Nine commercial airlines offer passenger service and seven cargo airlines transport cargo. San Jose passengers enjoy many terminal amenities including free Wi-Fi in both terminal buildings, shopping, dining, rental car agencies and ground transportation.
