The LA/Ontario International Airport, in the Los Angeles suburb of Ontario, was built in 1923 by The Friends of Ontario Airport - a flying club. The airport was named Latimer Field. By 1929, the airport was established as the Ontario Municipal Airport in the southwest corner of the present airport. In 1943, during World War II, it served as a Army Air Corps P-38 training base and P-59 operating base. In the 1950's, the airport was home to Douglas, Northop and Lockheed aircraft plants.
The 1,700-acre airport is the third major airport in the Los Angeles area, following Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and John Wayne Airport. The airport's long runways are sometimes used as an alternative for LAX flights, during inclement weather. Passengers have plenty of flight choices from the seven commercial airlines, serviced in the airport's three terminals. Airport amenities include dining, shopping and rental car agencies. Stay close to the airport in a comfortable Best Western guest room and enjoy your time in Southern California.
