The Chumash Painted Cave State Historic Park is located near Goleta in the Santa Ynez Mountains of the Los Padres National Forest. The Chumash Native Americans created the rock art on the cave walls, in the 1600s and earlier. Santa Barbara Municipal Airport was established in 1928, when a flight school developed an airstrip near Goleta, west of Santa Barbara. Throughout the years, this Central Coast airport expanded its services and structures. In 1932, the airport serviced its first commercial flight with Pacific Seaboard Airlines, followed by United Airlines in 1936. By 1941, the airport became the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport.
Five commercial airlines service passengers with non-stop flights to Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco and Phoenix.
