Visit Alcatraz Island National Historic Landmark, located in the San Francisco Bay, to enjoy a partially self-guided tour of the military and federal prison. Candlestick Park

Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail
The Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail is a 1200-mile trail extending from Nogales, Mexico through Southern California and the California's Central Coast region. Juan Bautista de Anza began the exploratory trek in 1774, across the Sonoran Desert, following the Colorado River. Anza completed his initial trip in 74 days. On Anza's second trip, his supply of horses and Texas Longhorn bulls and cows started the cattle and horse industry in California.
They established the Presidio of San Francisco and the Mission San Francisco de Asis, which became San Francisco. Learn about the history of the trail during an auto tour along the historic trail, or stop to see the landmarks, sights and National Park Service reenactments. Presidio of San Francisco
The Presidio of San Francisco is located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area on the San Francisco Peninsula. This national landmark began as a fortified location for Spain in 1776, then for Mexico and finally for the United States in 1847. Active military use ended in 1989. In 1994, the National Park Service began to manage the Presidio.
