The Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport, located northwest of Santa Rosa, was first developed in 1942 as the Santa Rosa Army Air Field. It was a replacement training airfield for the Fourth Air Force until 1946. The airfield was converted to a civilian airport for commercial flights in the 1940s, with service from Southwest Airways and for general aviation. Additional hangars, an air traffic control tower and a terminal building were constructed in the 1960s, with additional facilities added throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
The airport was named after long-time Santa Rosa resident Charles M. Schulz, the cartoonist that developed the Peanuts cartoon. This 1,014-acre airport offers commercial flights through Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air to Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. While in the California Wine Country area, visit the Pacific Coast Air Museum, located adjacent to the airport to learn more about the region's aviation history. Consider checking into one of the local Best Western hotels for comfortable lodging and excellent guest services.
