Visiting California's Inland Empire
Beach-bound Interstate 10 travelers are familiar with communities like Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, and Ontario as gateways to the Los Angeles area, but this season, there are more reasons than ever to consider the Inland Empire a travel destination of its own.
Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino has a big season in store. The 2015 Tough Mudder Run sends participants along a muddy, obstacle-filled 5K course on March 28th and 29th, the 2015 California Classic MX brings the motocross’ brightest talents on April 11th and 12th, and the 2015 Red Bull Glen Helen National packs in even more motocross action, May 21st, through 23rd.
San Bernardino, Moreno Valley and Phelan visitors will also have a lot of big-name concerts to choose from this season. Country superstar Toby Keith brings hits like “Red Solo Cup” to the San Manuel Amphitheater on May 30th, before Kid Rock and Foreigner visit the same venue on August 29th.
Late-spring visitors to Interstate 15 communities like Corona, Lake Elsinore, and Temecula are in for a treat. The 2015 Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival is May 29th through 31st, promising three full days of wine and beer tastings, live entertainment, and hot air balloon launches at Lake Skinner County Park.
Don’t wait to head out to Lake Skinner or neighboring lakes like Diamond Valley Lake, Canyon Lake, and Lake Elsinore – fishing is already in season. Cast a line from your boat or from the shore for the chance to reel in bass, carp, or bluegill as water temperatures rise.
To the east, Yucca Valley is a year-round destination and a gateway to the one-of-a-kind scenery of Joshua Tree National Park, where outdoor enthusiasts can escape for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing in the Little San Bernardino Mountains.
The iconic park also offers a variety of special events to Yucca Valley residents and visitors. Use the surroundings as inspiration for Watercolor Painting in Joshua Tree National Park, on April 26th, or attend Light & Color: Oil Painting in Joshua Tree National Park on May 2nd.
And for a little vacation fun without getting dirty, head to Old Town Yucca Valley on the first Saturday of every month for 1st Saturday Late Night Shopping Old Town Yucca Valley, which sees a locally owned boutiques and restaurants staying open late and offering special deals on a variety of items – a must for any vacationing retail addict.
