Napa County’s Wine Country
California’s Napa Valley Wineries
Home to the famed Napa Valley American Viticultural Area – or just Napa Valley – Napa County is one of the more well-known wine areas in the country. Set just north of the San Francisco Bay area, Napa County is the heart of California’s Wine Country.
Cities include Napa and Calistoga, both set amidst many wineries and vineyards in the area. More than five million travelers visit Napa Valley each year for wine tastings – all thirsty for chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and zinfandel.
Napa Valley is broken down into large-scale wineries that have been in operation for decades, and more intimate, boutique wineries throughout the county. Popular wineries include Charles Krug Winery, Robert Mondavi Winery, and Nichelini and Beringer, while the boutique operations consist of Screaming Eagle, Duckhorn Vineyards, Jericho Canyon Vineyards, and many more.
Make a visit to Saint Helena where you'll find the Charles Krug Winery. It was founded in 1861, making it one of the oldest wineries in the state. Visit from Rohnert Park or Santa Rosa and enjoy a wide selection of your favorite wines. Continue your exploration Saint Helena and check out the Duckhorn Vineyards, known to be a premier merlot maker in Napa. Duckhorn Vineyards is a boutique-stye wine operation, so the facilities are much more quaint and charming.
Not far north from Saint Helena is Calistoga, where you'll want to tour the Jericho Canyon Vineyard. Visit from Clearlake or stay in Calistoga – either way, you'll find an excellent selection of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Discover California Wine Country in Napa however you see fit – stay in the charming cities, or explore the area on the Napa Valley Wine Train.
