California National Parks: Channel Islands
Off the Coast at Channel Islands National Park
Channel Islands National Park
A 249,561-acre island park, Channel Islands National Park is a sunny Golden State getaway set right off the central California coast. Look forward to diving, kayaking and swimming, and start you trip off at the Outdoors Santa Barbara Visitor Center in Santa Barbara, or the Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center in Ventura.
Visitors may choose from five islands within the Channel Islands National Park: Anacapa Island, Santa Cruz Island, Santa Rosa Island, San Miguel Island, and Santa Barbara Island. Recreation surrounds any visitor to the park, so choose from extreme activities kayaking and surfing, or a relaxation session with a fishing pole, a picnic lunch, or a book on the beach.
Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, exotic birds and wildflowers, or even some whales, seals, and sea lions. Gray whale season is from December through April, while blue whale season starts in the spring and lasts throughout the summer.
One of the more popular activities at Channel Islands National Park is sea cave exploration – which is exactly what it sounds like. So spend your days underwater at the Channel Islands National Park, and your nights at a Best Western hotel on the California coast.
