California National Parks: Lassen Volcanic
A Vacation Hotspot at Lassen Volcanic National Park
Lassen Volcanic National Park
A combination of the Cinder Cone National Monument and Lassen Peak National Monument, Lassen Volcanic National Park was established in 1916, and receives nearly 400,000 annual visitors. This national park is best known for Lassen Peak – the Cascades’ southern-most volcano, and the world’s largest plug dome volcano.
Recreation abounds in Lassen Volcanic National Park. This four-season park features everything from bird watching for more than 83 species of birds, to cross country skiing on the snowy 30-mile Main Park Road.
Vacationing during the summer season? Get in some aquatic adventure on the Lassen Volcanic National Park’s many lakes and rivers. Try fly-fishing in Manzanita Lake, or hook some trout in Butte Lake and Horseshoe Lake. Rent a kayak or canoe and hit Manzanita Lake once again for more summer fun.
The best way to explore Lassen Volcanic National Park may be by foot. Hike the four miles around Cinder Cone in the Butte Lake Region, or circle Boiling Springs Lake on its three-mile trail. If you need a break from the sun, stop by the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, the Loomis Museum, or the Manzanita Lake Camper Store.
