Visiting California's North Coast
Popular destinations along California’s North Coast like Eureka, Healdsburg, and Santa Rosa will be abuzz with entertainment this fall. Plan your next visit to the North Coast and experience an impressive array of top attractions, must-see events, and you might even find a few concerts to check out, too.
In Eureka, one of the top fall destinations for outdoor fun is the Smith River National Recreation Area. Anglers enjoy healthy bounties of salmon, trout, and steelhead, while hikers have a wealth of options as the Six Rivers National Forest opens up a gorgeous palette of fall colors. You can experience this true beauty of nature with a short drive in from Fortuna or Arcata.
Plan your stay in Eureka and Humboldt County for any time between October 27th and November 19th, and when you do, prepare for an evening of live staged theatre. You’ll have a chance to check out the classic Shakespeare play, The Taming of the Shrew, live at the Redwood Curtin performance venue. Show times for this show are 8 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays, and one 2 p.m. performance on Sundays.
Golf fans will no doubt want to visit Sonoma this fall. Along with several top courses you can play, you’ll also be able to check out the annual Safeway Open golf tournament, held in nearby Napa. From October 12th through 16th, the Silverado Resort & Spa Golf Course will be the site of this premier PGA event. You can also see the X Ambassadors on the 13th, Charles Kelley on the 14th, and Third Eye Blind on the 15th – all part of the Live Music After Golf series.
This fall in Sonoma, you’ll be able to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Sonoma Music Festival. Explore downtown Sonoma with a quick drive in from Petaluma or Rohnert Park from October 7th to the 9th, and see a wealth of premier musicians. October 7th features John Fogerty, Andy Velo, and Hearty Har, while classic rockers the Steve Miller Band headline the showcase on October 8th. If country music is more your taste, October 9th features Toby Keith, live on stage at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
Clearlake and the surrounding area will yield some truly unique and very impressive fun this fall. Plan a stay in Clearlake for September 24th and make the short drive into nearby Kelseyville for the 24th Annual Kelseyville Pear Festival. From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Main Street in Kelseyville is transformed into a peach party – there’s a pancake breakfast to start things off, and a wine tasting tent later in the day for the adults.
