Visiting California's North Coast

Cross the Golden Gate Bridge north to Sonoma County and California’s famous wine country to begin a summer adventure through the California North Coast region. From Sonoma to Crescent City, the adventure of Del Norte County awaits. Humboldt County boasts California's Redwood Coast and summer temperatures are ideal for discovering Redwood National Park and Ave of the Giants. July travelers enjoy the sounds of the Mendocino Music Festival at multiple venues, including Mendocino Highlands State Park and Fort Bragg’s Evergreen Methodist Church. The American summer tradition of baseball is long standing in Humboldt County. The Humboldt Crabs semi-pro baseball team celebrates its 69th season in 2013. Enjoy a night at Arcata Ball Park with hotdogs, beer and the Humboldt Crabs from June through August.

Set the training calendar for the 2013 Crescent City Triathlon. Events include the 29th Annual Adult Triathlon and 9th Annual Kids Triathlon featuring four age group distances. The start and finish for the Crescent City Triathlon is the Fred Endert Pool. The swim segments are in the pool followed by run and bike courses along the Crescent City coastline.

July brings all the excitement and family fun of the Fortuna Rodeo. In its 92nd year, the 2013 Fortuna Rodeo is July 15th through 21st. Celebrate the traditions of a small town rodeo in Fortuna. The Redwood Fortuna Rodeo includes a week of street games, carnival, live entertainment and the much-anticipated Saturday parade through downtown Fortuna.

For Rodeo purists, The Rodeo in the Redwoods takes place in Garberville at the Benbow Rodeo Grounds in Greycliff Acres. The 2013 Garberville Rodeo is June 14th and 15th. Join the fun at the rodeo parade, savor a steak dinner and watch the exciting rodeo events. Enjoy pure rodeo fun in Garberville.

Runners visiting Sonoma County and California’s wine country enjoy a run through the vineyards at the 2013 Water to Wine Half Marathon. With a fast course headed downhill, Water to Wine is a point-to-point race beginning at the Lake Sonoma Visitors Center and ending in the scenic community of Healdsburg at Alderbrook Winery.
