Visiting Orange County

Fall in Orange County sees Disneyland transform into a haunted Halloween destination. Haunted Halloween runs through October, and in November the park turns into a winter wonderland for the Holidays. This is the time of year to visit Anaheim and Disneyland and check out the Haunted Mansion Holiday, fly through Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, and shriek through the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Don’t miss the preview of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, and meet Sparky, Disney’s latest hero at Disney California Adventure Park. Next door to Anaheim in Buena Park, Knott’s Berry Farm’s 40th Annual Halloween Haunt opens late September. Enjoy fall fun in Orange County.

Orange County sets the pace for children’s fitness with the 2012 OC Kids Triathlon. The October 14th events are hosted at Costa Mesa High School and feature challenges for kids from 4 to 15 years old. The youngest participate in the Pee Wee Tri, with longer Kids and Junior Tri’s for older children. The OC Kids Triathlon features the swim, bike and run, however, in reverse order to accommodate the swim segments at the CMHS swimming pool.

With idyllic fall weather in Orange County, athletic challenges of all types fill community calendars. Newport Beach boasts its triathlon as the Longest Running Triathlon in the World. The Newport Beach Triathlon celebrates its 35th anniversary, with the 2012 events on October 21st. Events include a sprint course, super sprint course and youth course. The Kring & Chung Newport Beach Triathlon start, finish and transitions are at Back Bay of Newport Beach.

XTerra Wetsuits TRI the Beachcomes to the Orange Country community of Seal Beach October 20th for the 2012 Seal Beach Triathlon. The Seal Beach Tri format is a ½-mile swim, 10-mile bike and 2.1-mile run. The ocean swim starts at Seal Beach Pier, and does not require a wetsuit. The bike follows, taking riders along the San Gabriel River bike trail. Footwear is optional for the out-and-back run on the sands of Seal Beach. The Seal Beach Triathlon is a great race for beginning and intermediate triathletes.

Discover Orange County’s premier natural open spaces at the Chino Hills Trail Run Series. The fall Chino Hills trail runs are November 3rd, starting at Carbon Canyon Regional Park east of Brea and Placentia. Running events include distances from 10K to 50K including the Chino Hills Marathon and Half Marathon.
