Visiting Orange County

Anaheim’s Disneyland is even more fun and festive during the holiday season. Through January 6th, 2013, the happiest place on earth also becomes the merriest. Sleeping Beauty’s Castle sparkles with twinkling lights and icicles, and the daily Christmas Fantasy Parade winds its way through the streets of Disneyland – enjoy your favorite Disney characters celebrating the season. Stop by the Haunted Mansion this Holiday season, and see how Jack Skellington celebrates, and be sure to take the ride through It’s a Small World to see holiday festivities from around the world. After the New Year, run off those extra calories at the 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon, on January 20th.

Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa has a full calendar of holiday events to brighten the season. Start with the 2012 Nutcracker for Kids on December 8th, featuring the Pacific Symphony and Festival Ballet Theatre. The Pacific Chorale performs Tis The Season on the 16th, and the Pacific Symphony returns on December 18th, for the popular Holiday Organ Spectacular.

The City of Orange is a good spot for a sighting of Santa during the holidays. Visit the Irving Park Railroad for a trip on the Christmas Train and on November 30, get a picture with Santa and the kids. Check in with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the 2012 Christmas at the Zoo, December 8th, at the Orange County Zoo, or at several Orange library branches including the Taft Branch and El Modena Branch.

Take a boat ride with Santa in Dana Point. Make it a special holiday at Dana Point Harbor with a variety of spectacular seasonal events. It’s Lights, Camera, Action, for the theme of the 2012 Dana Point Harbor Boat Parade of Lights – A Hollywood Holiday. See boats lit and decorated for 2012 on December 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th. Enjoy the view from the coast, a Dana Point waterfront restaurant or on a boat – make your 2012 holiday a memorable one.

In addition to weekly events like, Food Truck Fare on Wednesday evenings and the weekend's Orange County Fair Marketplace and swap meet, the Orange County Fair & Event Center is the place to be on New Year's Eve. The OC New Year's Eve Block Party features live music and entertainment, food trucks, a special Demolition Derby and casino games. Costa Mesa and the OC Fairgrounds is the place to launch 2013.

Take to the streets of Surf City USA February 3rd, for the 2013 Huntington Beach Marathon. With amazing Southern California temperatures and a course along the Pacific Ocean coastline, the Surf City USA Marathon is a classic. Events include the marathon and half marathon – either way, California’s Pacific Coast Highway hosts the start, with runners passing the Huntington Beach Pier and sites like the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. This Huntington Beach race is one of the country’s most popular.

Santa Ana celebrates the Year of the Snake at the 2013 Tet Festival, February 8th through 10th. One of the first Orange County festivals of the year, the Tet Festival is held in Garden Grove at Garden Grove Park. Presented by the Vietnamese Student Associations of SoCal, this is the 32nd year for the Tet Festival.
