Visiting Orange County
Having successfully navigated the holiday season, enjoy a relaxing – if not therapeutic – trip through the Orange County region of California. Residents of southern California tread the line between winter and spring because the weather is usually quite nice – not too cold during the winter, and rarely too warm during spring and summer. Whether you’re venturing into a Disneyland adventure with the whole family in Anaheim, or looking to visit closer to open waters – Newport Beach, and Laguna Beach – you’ll find a wealth of interesting, fun, and unique things to do from here through early March.
Cruise into Dana Point on your OC visit. Set between San Clemente and Laguna Beach, Dana Point is a pleasant seaside city, home to the Salt Creek Beach Park, and the Ocean Institute. Enjoy live music at the St. Edwards Church on February 8th, when the Dana Point Symphony performs for guests.
A week before all the hoopla of the Dana Point Symphony, head to La Plaza Park and check out the farmers market, and a festive craft fair – February 2nd from nine in the morning, to three in the afternoon.
Just east along the coast from Dana Point is San Clemente. Another shining example of seaside beauty and hospitality, San Clemente is known as the “Spanish Village by the Sea.” Check out San Clemente State Beach where, although the weather still may be a bit on the chilly side, you’ll find unmatched ocean views. On March 5th, wake up a little early and head for the San Clemente Community Center for the annual Mayor’s Breakfast – starts at 7am.
Closer to Newport Beach you’ll discover Costa Mesa. Make your way into Costa Mesa on February 3rd and visit the Segerstrom Center for the Arts for a liver performance of Mozart’s Requiem Unwound.
You’ll find some adventure in Huntington Beach. Whether you visit the International Surfing Museum or stroll along the beach, you’ll find all the excitement you want. Make plans to explore the Huntington Beach Art Center, where from January 18th through February 23rd you’ll be able to enjoy Center on the Center, an “annual non-juried, salon-style group exhibition.”
Continue the art love affair when you check out the Downtown Huntington Beach Art Walk, on February 21st.
A short drive northeast and you’re in Orange. Known to embody a “slice of Old Town charm,” Orange is home to the Orange County Zoo. Pack up the kids and head for the Orange County Zoo on February 28th for the Animal Art II Toddler Program (still pretty fun for slightly older kids.)
