Visiting Sacramento & California Gold Country
Sacramento is California’s sixth largest city and the state capital. A diverse city, Sacramento features a wide variety of attractive sights and exciting things to do. Set within the California gold rush country, Sacramento and it’s neighboring suburbs and cities are full of substantial summer fun. A city like Lodi, home to the San Joaquin County Historical Museum, draws a number of summer visitors looking to visit the Great Valley Serpentarium. Dixon, home to the TLC Petting Zoo, is a charming destination set just 15 minutes south of Davis. Sacramento and the Gold Rush Country have a lot to offer – be ready to explore.
The central hub of activity and tourism in the Gold Rush Country of California is Sacramento. Affectionately known as Sac-Town, Sacramento hosts visitors from around the world on a year-round basis. During the summer, plan a visit to the Sacramento Zoo. Celebrating 85 years in 2012, the Sacramento Zoo is 14 acres of animal-watching adventure – check out the Wildlife Stage Show, engage in the regular Keeper Chats, and let the kids enjoy a ride on the Conservation Carousel.
Tour the California State Capitol Museum, or visit Old Sacramento, a 28-acre National Historic Landmark District. On April 21, experience the 21st Annual Festival de la Familia, celebrating more than 20 different Latino cultures at the Cal Expo center.
Baseball fans exploring Sacramento are sure to visit Raley Field, home to the Sacramento River Cats. As the Triple-A, minor league affiliate of the Oakland A’s, the River Cats play in the Pacific Coast League. Head to Raley Field and check out the action on May 25 when the River Cats take on the Reno Aces.
Davis, a smaller city set west of Sacramento, is home to the University of California, Davis, and the Explorit Science Center. Many guests of the Best Western Davis hotels find time to explore the Rocknasium, a fun and challenging indoor rock-climbing gym.
Take advantage of the tremendous summer weather with a round of golf at the Davis Municipal Golf Course. Tour the UC Davis Arboretum, or check out the Hattie Weber Museum. May 25, head to Dobbins Baseball Field and watch as the UC Davis Aggies battle the UC Irvine Anteaters.
Head into Woodland, a quaint city set just west of Sacramento. While in Woodland, make plans to visit the Hays Antique Truck Museum, and the Woodland Opera House – April 20 thru May 13, check out the new musical stage performance, “13.” Golfers especially enjoy Woodland during the summer for it’s scenery – take it all in while playing a round at the Wildwings Golf Course.
