Sacramento, at the heart of California’s capital region and gold rush country heats up with summer events, festivals and activities for all. Launch your summer off with a diversity of live music Memorial Day weekend at the newly named Sacramento Music Festival. The California State Fair held at Sacramento’s Cal Expo, has been moved from its traditional Labor Day schedule to July - there is now no conflict with back to school time. Athletes of all ages have a full summer of challenges from the California Kids Triathlon to the Sacramento International Triathlon. Ready, set, go – it’s summertime in Sacramento.

Start your summer off at the 29th Annual Sacramento Music Festival. Formerly the Sacramento Jazz Festival & Jubilee, 2012 brings a new name along with the same great entertainment. Held Memorial Day Weekend, May 25th trough the 28th, venues in and around Old Sacramento fill with four days of outstanding performances. No longer the kick-off parade, the festival parade is now on Saturday so everyone can attend.

Home of California’s state capital, Sacramento hosts the Annual California Exposition & State Fair at Cal Expo. The 2012 California State Fair is the 159th year for the event, and is now scheduled July 12th through July 29th, instead of Labor Day weekend. Headline concerts include Rick Springfield, Joan Jett and Scotty McCreery among many top names. Experience the best of California, from the traditional agriculture and livestock exhibitions, to horse racing and extreme sports, and well as the Magical Midway’s games and amusement rides. Complete your summer fun with a visit to the California Exposition and State Fair.

California’s capital region keeps athletes on track with a full calendar of challenges and fun summer runs and walks. Davis, 15-miles west of Sacramento, hosts the 2012 Davis Moonlight Races July 14th. Featuring 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Kids 1-mile events, Davis’ Moonlight Races begin at 7pm at Kaiser Permanente in south Davis. It’s a full moon Saturday the 14th; stick around after the races for the post-race festivities.

Discovery Park in Sacramento is the site for the 2012 Sacramento International Triathlon This USAT sanctioned race is July 22nd, featuring a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run. The swim course is in American River and wet suits are allowed.

Sunday August 5th is the date for the 2012 California Kids Triathlon. For over 10-years, kids from 4 to 17 years old have participated in the California Kids Tri with a goal of completing the event regardless of ability and times – this is a non-competitive formatted event. Distances are geared for various age groups, with the oldest group swimming 200 yards, biking 6 miles and running 1 mile. CKT courses have moved from Woodland to Arroyo Park in Davis for 2012.

End your summer with a splash in Roseville at Splash Roseville 2012. This year's theme is Under the Sea, with festivities and entertainment filling the Roseville Aquatics Complex on Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard. Enjoy samples from local restaurants, wineries and breweries while enjoying live music and browsing artist installations.
