Visiting Sacramento & California Gold Country
Enjoy a post-winter and early spring adventure in Sacramento and its surrounding areas. The capital of California, Sacramento thrives in early spring, with excellent temperatures and a world of attractive things to see and do – visit the California State Capitol Museum, or explore Old Sacramento. Nearby suburbs like Davis, and Woodland prove to be a short drive away, and plenty of fun – you won’t want to miss the Square Tomatoes Craft Fair on February 10th at Central Park in Davis. Continue a day of art when you check out the Sacramento Antique Faire, also February 10th, just off the Capital City Freeway in downtown.
Continue exploring Sacramento this spring. Presented by the Brazilian Center for Cultural Exchange of Sacramento, head to the YMCA Sacramento on February 16 and experience the Carnaval 2013 – live music, dancing, other entertainment and food will no doubt make for a memorable evening. Make the short drive in from Roseville, and have a blast.
Enjoy a taste of the Capital City during Sacramento Beer Week, February 22nd through March 3rd. The week-long event is capped off with the Sacramento Brewers Showcase and Capital Beerfest at the Cal Expo.
South of downtown Sacramento is Lodi. A pleasant and charming city, Lodi is home to the Great Valley Serpentarium – whether you’re in the mood for a guided tour, or if you’re looking to add a pet snake to the family, don’t miss out on this unique experience.
Be sure to visit Lodi on February 17th, when you’ll see Esther Kemalyan-Roche perform her live piano solos as part of the Lodi Community Concert Series – all the fun is at the Knowlton Gallery. Travel in from nearby Galt for excellent reptile adventures, and pleasant live music.
East of Sacramento you’ll find Placerville, an affable city set just off Highway 50. The third Saturday of each month, you’ll be able to check out the Placerville Artwalk all along Historic Main Street in Placerville. Enjoy the fine post-winter weather with a visit to Lumsden Park – try some fishing at the pond, or toss some horseshoes with the family. You’ll find the drive in from nearby Pollock Pines is a breeze.
Accessed easily from I-80, and just outside of the Auburn State Recreation Area, the city of Auburn makes for a choice destination on a day-trip away from downtown Sacramento. Plan a visit to the Historic Placer County Courthouse, and then make your way to the High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails – nearly 380,000 acres perfect for a springtime hike, bike ride, or horseback riding excursion. When you visit Auburn on February 10th, you’ll be treated to the Taste of Chocolate Festival in Old Town Auburn.
