Visiting San Diego Metropolitan Area

Classic Southern CaliforniaSan Diego. Well known for its laid-back lifestyle, beaches and fun attractions, San Diego is at its best in summer. Visit now and enjoy the surf and sand at popular white sand beaches including Coronado, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach and La Jolla. Join family and friends at summer attractions including Carlsbad's Legoland California, SeaWorld San Diego, and Del Mar Racetrack. Enjoy America's favorite passtime with family and friends at Petco Park cheering on the San Diego Padres. Or get outside and enjoy San Diego's ideal weather with a walk, run or bike through Balboa Park. Don't forget the many San Diego summer festivals and events including the San Diego County Fair.

No need to leave the family dog at home while you visit San Diego. Check-in a pet-friendly Sand Diego Hotel – there are more than 25 Best Western locations in the area, and head for one of San Diego’s dog-friendly parks or beaches. Ocean Beach Dog Beach is off-leash 24 hours a day. Mission Bay Park is open for off-leash dogs from 6am to 10pm. Or visit Coronado and the North Beach dog run next to the US Naval Station entrance at the north end of the beach.

Balboa Park features two dog parks. Morley Field is at the north end of the park, north west of Morley Field tennis courts, and Nate’s Point is on the west side of Balboa Park off Balboa Drive and El Prado, to the south of Cabrillo Bridge. Explore San Diego with your family and man’s best friend.

For August visitors, visit the 7th Annual Cardiff Dog Days of Summer, near Carlsbad and Encinitas. Dog Days is a southern California street fair for dogs and dog lovers. Set for August 11th, the festival opens with the Blessing of the Animals, followed by contests, live entertainment and booths.

The 2012 San Diego County Fair celebrates the theme, Out of This World. Held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in northern San Diego County, the fair runs June 8th through July 4th, and is open daily except Monday’s. For the hungry, the Del Mar Diner features Deep Fried Tang, Flying Saucer Sopes and Deep Fried Chili Asteroids. And be sure to visit the Bacon-A Fair if bacon is on your list.

Entertainment options abound at San Diego County Fair, from concerts by Demi Lovato to Horse Shows and Swifty Swine races. Take in exhibits of the best southern California agriculture, livestock and homemade goods; enjoy traditional midway games and amusement rides; and check out the special World Trade Center exhibit of artifacts on the south side of the Chevrolet Del Mar Arena – it’s all about family fun at the fair.

Horse racing fans, this is the season ‘where the turf meets the surf at Del Mar’, as Bing Crosby sang. The 2012 Del Mar racetrack season is July 18th through September 5th. Join the crowds for the One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats contest, on opening day and kick off the season. Del Mar’s richest race is the Pacific Classic on Sunday, August 26th, where you see many of the top Thoroughbreds race. Don’t miss the horses at Del Mar this season.
