Visiting San Diego Metropolitan Area
Enjoy a post holiday visit to San Diego. As one of southern California’s most visited cities, San Diego and the surrounding area, feature a wealth of attractive and interesting things to do – especially in early spring. Once the chill of winter fades, head to San Diego and visit nearby cities like Chula Vista, and La Jolla. When you can’t decide which museum to explore during the month of February, don’t fret, you can see more than one as admission is half-off for San Diego Museum Month, all through February. Explore and enjoy during early spring in San Diego.
Enjoy a raucous evening out on the town on February 9th, when you celebrate the 2013 Little Italy Carnevale in downtown San Diego. With live music, excellent food, dancing, and even mask-making for the kids, the 10th Annual Little Italy Carnevale is San Diego’s family oriented version of the Carnevale in Venice. Make the drive in from El Cajon or Escondido and enjoy the 2013 Little Italy Carnevale – it’s free!
A few days later on February 12, don’t miss a Mardi Gras celebration – it’s Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp. Head to downtown San Diego and explore the Gaslamp Quarter, where you’ll be one of the expected 40,000 guests in attendance for Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras in the Gaslap will feature a grand parade, street performers set to entertain throughout, along with live music – it is, however, a 21 and over event. Celebrate Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday with a drive into downtown San Diego from Oceanside or Carlsbad.
In March, look for the 2013 San Diego Latino Film Festival, celebrating its 20th year. Beginning on March 7th, and running through the 17th, the 2013 San Diego Latino Film Festival will be set at the UltraStar Cinemas at the Hazard Center near Mission Valley.
Head to the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. On March 16 you’ll be in prime position to check out St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival. The entire event is free and perfect for a family activity. Make the drive in from Santee or Encinitas.
One of San Diego’s most legendary – and beautiful – landmarks is Balboa Park. Whether you’re simply looking for a place to picnic, or if you’re in the market for a set event, Balboa Park is a wealth of options spread across 1,200 acres of pristine park land. Don’t miss out on the Lowrider Legends at the San Diego Automotive Museum on February 16th, or check out a performance of The Brother’s Size, live at The Old Globe.
